Surgery performed to relieve pyloric stenosis , a narrowing of the pyloric channel at the outlet of the stomach, resulting in forceful vomiting which can occur in children as an congenital defect. This surgery allows the stomach contents to empty into the duodenum (small intestine) more readily. Symptoms usually occur early, within the first few weeks of life. Pyloric stenosis is much more common in boys than in girls.
